Rooted in the Table — Faith Challenge, Week 4
On World Communion Sunday we shared one meal with Christians around the world. This week, carry the Table with you. Each day, pray the call to worship and opening prayer, reflect on the day's word, and pray for our sisters and brothers in one part of the world.
Call to Worship: "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." (Psalm 34:8)
Opening Prayer: God who sets the table, open my heart to your welcome, and widen it for everyone you have invited. Amen.
Day 1 — Remember (1 Corinthians 11:24)
Pray for: our own congregation
Try this: Recall a time someone at church made you feel welcome.
Ask yourself: Who might need that same welcome from me?
Day 2 — Taste and See (Psalm 34:8)
Pray for: the church across Africa
Try this: Before one meal today, pause and give thanks slowly.
Ask yourself: Where have I tasted God's goodness this week?
Day 3 — One Body (1 Corinthians 10:17)
Pray for: the church in Asia and the Pacific
Try this: Pray for a Christian whose tradition differs from yours.
Ask yourself: What divides me from other believers, and does it matter to Christ?
BACK
Day 4 — Room at the Table (Luke 14:13)
Pray for: the church in Latin America and the Caribbean
Try this: Invite someone to share a meal or a cup of coffee.
Ask yourself: Who is usually left out of my table?
Day 5 — Nourished (John 6:35)
Pray for: the church in Europe
Try this: Name one way God has fed you when you felt empty.
Ask yourself: What am I hungry for right now?
Day 6 — Proclaim (1 Corinthians 11:26)
Pray for: Christians who worship where faith is dangerous
Try this: Give thanks for the freedom to gather openly.
Ask yourself: How does my life proclaim Christ's love?
Day 7 — Until He Comes (Luke 13:29)
Pray for: the whole church, east and west, north and south
Try this: Make a plan to return to the Table next time it's offered.
Ask yourself: How will I carry the Table's welcome into next week?
Closing Prayer: God of the one loaf and the common cup, thank you for feeding me and joining me to your people in every land. Root me in your grace and send me out to share it. Amen.
